1. Why AI is transforming ECM and the role of CIOs
The unsupervised use of AI in businesses
Artificial intelligence is now an essential tool in daily professional life. However, its adoption often takes place in the shadow of CIOs.
According to a study LayerX 2024, 49% of employees using ChatGPT font without permission from their hierarchy.
Even more worrisome, 15% of them Have already copy and paste internal content, of which almost half concerned sensitive or confidential information.
These practices reflect a growing imbalance between The real use of AI And the management of associated risks : data exposure, GDPR non-compliance, loss of intellectual property, etc.
IT departments are faced with an imperative: manage, secure and promote these new AI uses within their documentary information system.
An AI maturity still under construction
Businesses are aware of the challenge.
Again according to LayerX, 84% organizations believe that theResponsible AI should be a strategic priority.
But alone 16% of them have actually deployed a mature AI governance program.
This discrepancy is explained by a lack of concrete solutions meeting their needs:
- Mastery of the AI data And of Big Data I
- technological sovereignty,
- regulatory compliance,
- and access to efficient, efficient and secure tools.
It is to bridge this gap between ambition and practice that Efalia, Wikit, and the Hubert Curien Laboratory (LabHC) have joined forces in a common project: DaVincidoc.
2. DaVincidoc: a consortium for sovereign and intelligent EDM
An i-Demo project with the Minalogic label
The DaVincidoc program Is an initiative i-Demo, supported by Bpifrance and certified by Minalogic.
This project of 36 months aims to rethink the document management in the age of artificial intelligence.
Its ambition: to create a content services platform (CSP)autonomous integrating AI agents capable of analyzing, enriching and protecting documentary data.
A consortium of excellence: Efalia, Wikit and the Hubert Curien Laboratory
- Efalia brings its historical expertise in Electronic Document Management (EDM) and in dematerialization.
- Wikit designs collaborative solutions and develops AI agents (professions) for the management and exploitation of content.
- The Hubert Curien Laboratory (Saint-Étienne, CNRS) is leading scientific research on frugal specialization of language models (LLM → SLM) And the cybersecurity.
-
The project is fully in line with the regional priorities of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and contributes to Regional Economic Development, Innovation and Internationalization Plan (SRDEII).
The technological ambitions of the program
The consortium is developing a unique approach, focused on sovereign and responsible AI, structured around three key innovations:
- Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture : transform document systems into vectorized knowledge bases, sovereign and secure.
- AI agents specialized trades : three sovereign models —
- leonardo (function calling and orchestration),
- Michelangelo (metadata extraction),
- Verrocchio (multimodal text/image analysis).
- Frugal specialization : reduce the size of the models to combine efficiency, energy efficiency and precision based on expert data.
These technological building blocks will serve as the foundation for a new generation of Smart and ethical ECMs.
3. Towards intelligent ECM: when AI enriches document management
From traditional ECM to the RAG knowledge base
Historically, the ECM consisted of storing, classifying and securing digital documents.
But with the rise of AI data, this approach shows its limits.
The volume of data is exploding, their nature is evolving (texts, videos, videos, images, emails...), and user expectations are changing towards semantic search And the contextual generation.
This is where the comes in Efalia ECM combined with artificial intelligence : a platform that no longer only indexes content, but understands, links and valorizes internal information to make it a true RAG knowledge base.
It thus becomes a strategic base able to respond in natural language, while ensuring confidentiality and GDPR compliance.
Why and how Add AI to your ECM
Integrating AI into document systems is no longer a luxury, but a performance driver.
Add AI to your ECM, it is:
• automate the classification of documents,
• contextualize research,
• speed up decision-making,
• and secure sensitive data flows.
According to theAIIM (Association for Intelligent Information Management), every dollar invested in content management earns an average of $8.55 in ROI thanks to gains in productivity, traceability and collaboration.
Documentary AI, when properly applied, is thus becoming a value accelerator and a guarantor of digital sovereignty.
4. The 2025 DSI x Data & IA Barometer: the first stage of the DaVincidoc program
Objective: to understand in order to build
Launched by Efalia as part of the consortium DaVincidoc, the DSI x Data & IA 2025 Barometer is the first concrete step in the program.
It aims to map AI and data maturity of French companies and to gather feedback from CIOs.
The results will allow the consortium to:
• identify brakes and accelerators adoption of AI,
• measure Data structuring within companies,
• and guide future technological developments of the project.

How to participate and contribute
En 10 minutes, each CIO can:
• assess its AI maturity,
• compare your position to that of your peers
• receive a AI x ECM Playbook exclusive at the end of the study.
• and get a invitation to return the results.
The participants thus contribute directly to a collective research approach, at the crossroads of science and business practice.

5. Some key figures to assess AI maturity
Recent figures highlight the urgency of a controlled approach to artificial intelligence in businesses.
According to the study LayerX 2024, 49% of employees use ChatGPT without permission, and 15% have already copied internal content — including 48% concerned sensitive or confidential data.
Si 84% of businesses consider responsible AI to be a priority, alone 16% have a truly mature program.
Finally, according toAIIM (Association for Intelligent Information Management, 2023), Every dollar invested in content management earns an average of $8.55, illustrating how a well-structured and AI-assisted ECM can generate value.
These figures highlight the urgency of measure, structure and supervise the uses of AI to transform risks into opportunities.
